About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Provide internal and external safety/security functions for BSMH facilities
- Participate in investigations and detentions when warranted
- Respond to radio and telephone calls for routine and emergency assistance
- Protect patients, visitors, and employees through escorts and patrols
- Patrol hospital grounds, parking lots, and parking decks
- Mitigate environment-of-care safety hazards
- Enforce parking, visitation, drug enforcement, and tobacco-free/smoking policies
- Monitor hospital activity on closed-circuit television
- Intervene in patient, visitor, and staff confrontations as appropriate
- Document duties through daily activity logs and incident reports
Requirements
What you’ll need- High school diploma or GED (required)
- Valid driver’s license (required)
- BLS Basic Life Support – American Heart Association (required within 6 months of hire)
- Must meet South Carolina Law Enforcement Division licensure requirements (armed – Taser) within 6 months of hire and complete TASER Training certification within 60 days, in accordance with SLED guidelines and maintained thereafter
- Basic skills using Microsoft Word
- Demonstrate proficiency in the use, maintenance, and safety protocols for defensive tools and restraint equipment, including batons, handcuffs, body-worn cameras, and soft restraints
- Maintain technical skills in radio communication, report writing, surveillance systems, and access control software
- Non-Violent Crisis Intervention Training (required within 6 months of hire)
