About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Coordinate patient access functions including customer service, patient registration, insurance/coverage verification, appointment scheduling, charge entry, billing, and managed care
- Perform charge entry, batch controls, billing edits, hold bill edits, and charge reconciliations
- Respond to billing inquiries, correspond with insurance carriers, and investigate discrepancies
- Provide administrative support using word processing, spreadsheets, and presentation software
- Manage physician and manager calendars and schedule administrative appointments
- Answer departmental calls and coordinate physician credentialing documents
- Perform reception and customer service duties
- Create or verify Master Patient Index records and registration demographics
- Manage visits and schedule consultations, tests, procedures, follow-up visits, and related services
- Collect co-payments and correct registration and insurance edits
- Coordinate and reconcile referrals, including referral work lists
- Handle phones and mail, forms, filing, photocopying, faxing, letters, and reports
- Adhere to BMC's RESPECT behavioral standards
Requirements
What you’ll need- Bachelor's degree, or Associate's degree plus 1 year relevant experience, or HS/GED plus 3+ years relevant experience
- Experience with medical billing or similar setting preferred
- Excellent English communication skills (oral and written)
- Strong interpersonal and customer service skills
- Ability to use appropriate judgment, independent thinking, and creativity when resolving customer issues
- Ability to maintain strict confidentiality of personal/health sensitive information
- Ability to handle challenging situations and balance multiple priorities
- Strong computer skills
- Knowledge of Microsoft Office applications (MS Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint) and web/internet
- Experience with standard hospital registration and billing systems, or ability to learn such systems
- Must be able to work the stated per diem, Monday–Friday 8am–5pm schedule
