About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Define and own the GPTI target architecture roadmap across ETRM, trading systems, data platforms, market connectivity, risk and valuation engines, settlement, regulatory reporting, and operational tooling
- Provide strategic architectural leadership across programme workstreams
- Establish and chair the GPTI Architecture Design Authority
- Advise VP/SVP-level Technology, Trading, and Risk collaborators on technology investment, build-vs-buy decisions, and platform direction
- Shape the multi-year technology modernisation strategy toward modular, cloud-native, event-driven, and AI-augmented architectures
- Lead architecture across ETRM, risk, scheduling, settlement, data, and integration capabilities
- Guide platform upgrades, migrations, containment strategies, and COTS configuration versus customisation decisions
- Architect API, event, and messaging integration layers
- Define non-functional requirements for performance, scalability, availability, disaster recovery, security, and auditability
- Architect end-to-end front-to-back trading workflows and market connectivity
- Lead gas and power scheduling and nominations architecture
- Define risk and valuation platform architecture
- Architect gas and power trading data landscapes, canonical data models, data mesh/fabric, master data management, lineage, and analytics integration
- Lead AWS/Azure cloud and hybrid architecture strategy
- Design enterprise integration architecture using API management, event-driven patterns, messaging, ETL/ELT, microservices, and service mesh
- Champion AI, ML, and agentic automation opportunities
- Define and govern DevOps, platform engineering, observability, CI/CD, infrastructure-as-code, containerisation, monitoring, alerting, and incident response standards
- Mentor architects, technical leads, and senior developers
- Represent GPTI in enterprise architecture forums
- Engage vendor technical leadership on product roadmaps, licensing, technical issues, and innovation
- Produce and maintain C4 models, target-state blueprints, data flow mappings, Key Design Decisions, ARDs, and technology lifecycle assessments
Requirements
What you’ll need- At least 8 years in a senior architecture or technical leadership position
- Extensive experience in technology roles within energy trading, commodity trading, or capital markets
- Strong understanding of enterprise trading platforms and ETRM concepts
- Experience reducing dependency on specialist legacy-platform skills
- Comprehensive knowledge of European and international gas and power markets
- Proven track record defining and delivering enterprise-level architecture for front-to-back trading platforms
- Expert understanding of integration architecture in high-performance trading environments
- Strong data architecture expertise
- Significant experience with AWS or Azure, infrastructure-as-code, Docker, Kubernetes, ECS/EKS, serverless patterns, and hybrid cloud architectures
- Experience influencing VP/SVP-level decision-makers across technology, trading, risk, and operations
- Experience producing and governing enterprise architecture artefacts including C4 models, ArchiMate diagrams, target-state blueprints, ARDs, NFR strategies, and data flow diagrams
- Experience with REMIT, EMIR, MiFID II, and ACER reporting requirements
- Relevant degree or equivalent experience in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or Information Systems
- TOGAF and AWS Solutions Architect certifications are desirable, not required
- Ability to work with specialist SMEs and senior collaborators
- Knowledge of API design, REST, GraphQL, gRPC, JMS, MQ, Kafka, ETL/ELT, real-time market data connectivity, and STP workflows
