About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Own finance for BAM!, including forecasting and planning, accounting and controls, cash management, and reliable reporting
  • Build annual budgets, predictive rolling forecasts, and long-range plans across a seasonal, multi-program, multi-state portfolio
  • Prepare Board-ready financial reports and KPI dashboards, including unit economics by program, customer/camp, and state
  • Lead pricing strategy and margin analysis for afterschool and summer camp programs
  • Build or support pricing and quoting tools used by Sales
  • Perform scenario planning and financial modeling for new states and programs
  • Partner with Operations on scheduling and labor-management systems, labor allocation rules, controls, and reporting
  • Establish trusted data flows from scheduling, timekeeping, and payroll systems into the general ledger and reporting
  • Provide investor and lender reporting, capital planning, and diligence support
  • Manage monthly close, GAAP-compliant financial statements, and scalable internal controls
  • Own external audits, tax filings, entity registrations, and multi-state compliance
  • Manage revenue recognition across tuition, camp fees, and school and district contracts
  • Select and implement scalable financial systems
  • Oversee payroll tax and employment compliance filings and annual ACA reporting
  • Review and approve payroll, including seasonal labor-cost variance reporting
  • Oversee accounts payable, expenses, reimbursements, vendor payments, approvals, and 1099 reporting
  • Manage consolidated financial reporting, intercompany accounting, and entity-level compliance
  • Forecast cash flow and manage working capital through seasonal cycles
  • Manage banking relationships, credit facilities, liquidity planning, billing, receivables, and collections
  • Oversee payroll funding and vendor payment cycles
  • Manage insurance coverage and renewals across operating states
  • Assess risk for new programs, partnerships, and markets
  • Manage outsourced accounting, financial, HR, audit, tax, insurance, benefits, and other finance-adjacent vendors
  • Review and approve customer and partner contracts for pricing, payment terms, cancellation, revenue recognition, and contractual risk
  • Partner with the CEO and counsel on legal and regulatory matters with financial exposure
  • Directly manage accounting and finance staff and outsourced partners
  • Partner with HR on labor-cost planning, benefits strategy, financially impactful policies, and seasonal staffing budgets
  • Support employment-related legal and compliance matters financially
  • Partner with the executive team on organizational design and cost structure
  • Prepare Board materials, financial packages, and strategic recommendations
  • Partner directly with the CEO on company strategy, growth investments, and capital planning
  • Represent BAM! in banking, audit, investor, and external financial relationships

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Commitment to the mission of widening access to enrichment for children in low-income communities
  • 10+ years of progressive finance leadership experience, including as a CFO, VP Finance, or Head of Finance
  • Experience owning forecasting, Board reporting, and the accounting function
  • Deep GAAP and accounting fundamentals
  • Experience owning external audit and multi-state tax compliance
  • Hands-on accounting depth to review and challenge an outsourced provider’s journal entries and close
  • Direct experience managing seasonal cash flow, working capital, and forecasting through revenue peaks and troughs
  • Advanced FP&A skills, including forecasts based on enrollment, staffing, and pricing assumptions
  • Scenario modeling and unit economics by product/program, site, customer, and season
  • Ability to build financial models independently
  • Experience with multi-entity corporate structures, intercompany accounting, and consolidated reporting
  • Board-level financial reporting and presentation experience
  • Ability to partner closely with HR on benefits, labor cost, policy, and compliance matters
  • Excellent judgment and discretion with confidential financial and personnel data
  • Current, hands-on use of AI and other third-party tools
  • Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, or a related field
  • Experience selecting, implementing, and integrating ERP, CRM, and payroll platforms
  • Experience accelerating the monthly close
  • Program-level or site-level cost accounting and margin reporting experience
  • Experience allocating variable-rate field labor across programs, sites, and clients
  • Understanding of payroll tax implications for a large, seasonal, multi-state hourly workforce
  • Seasonal, multi-site operating experience in education, camps, child care, or a similar business
  • Direct experience with government contracts, school district funding, or similarly reporting-intensive revenue
  • Experience managing outsourced or offshore accounting relationships
  • Experience leading complex reconciliation or compliance remediation projects
  • Ability to conduct numbers-backed cost-structure discussions with department leaders
  • Ability to travel occasionally for Board meetings, key partner relationships, and periodic in-person work with the CEO
  • CPA and/or MBA preferred
  • Experience with Sage Intacct, Salesforce, Paycom, and Bill.com is a strong plus
