About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Drive revenue and market share for the assigned portfolio and account base, spending 80% of working time in market
- Develop beverage and marketing strategies and growth plans for assigned categories or major suppliers
- Research trends, categories, and portfolios to support supplier goals
- Present new products and beverage offerings and conduct monthly business reviews
- Plan high-end consumer activations within key accounts
- Provide real-time market insights and report field intelligence for assigned territory and categories
- Collaborate with on-premise and retail sales teams to develop creative growth solutions
- Develop and deliver training modules for sales teams, customers, and suppliers
- Establish merchandising objectives and define point-of-sale needs
- Increase category share and velocity through account planning and brand-plan execution
- Obtain category distribution and develop beverage menus based on brand features and benefits
- Conduct staff education and build category knowledge
- Maintain relationships with key account stakeholders and gatekeepers
- Participate in supplier and category-specific work-with sales calls
- Attend educational workshops and maintain specialized industry knowledge
- Obtain advanced brand/product certifications and serve as a market expert
- Maintain customer confidentiality and comply with safety, cleanliness, and responsible alcohol-handling procedures
- Drive market share in retail or on-premise accounts, including facings, displays, menu placement, and bar visibility
- Perform other duties assigned by the supervisor
Requirements
What you’ll need- Bachelor’s degree in related field and/or equivalent training and work experience
- Minimum of 3-5 years in sales or industry-related and category expertise experience for category-specific roles
- CSS Certification or WSET Spirits Level 2; or category-specific certifications (Whiskey, Tequila, Sake or Beer); or fine wine accreditation, preferably WSET Level 2 or similar (CSW, Level II Court of Master Sommeliers)
- Specialized knowledge of the supported category or responsibility
- Valid driver’s license and ability to operate a motor vehicle
- Proficient PC skills using MS Office and other computer programs, including presentation software
- Verbal and written communication skills, diplomacy, discretion, and customer service skills
- Ability to multitask, work independently and/or within a team, pay attention to detail, and meet deadlines
- Analytical and reporting skills
- Sound judgment and problem-solving skills
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, high-volume team environment
- Preferred: on-premise/hospitality experience
- Preferred: background in consumer engagement mechanics
- For Spirits Specialty: beverage program or bartending/mixology experience; cocktail costing, inventory, menu creation, P&L analysis, budgeting, batching, staff training, and elevated beverage techniques
- For Wine Specialty: previous wine supplier experience and in-depth knowledge of wine styles, regions, grapes, aging potential, and flavor profiles
