About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Perform fiber installation tasks to connect customers to Brightspeed’s fiber product
- Install fiber-based high-speed internet for consumer customers
- Perform maintenance and repair on outside plant facilities when necessary to facilitate installation
- Travel frequently to markets with the highest order volume
- Climb poles and use shovels and picks to dig up and bury cable
- Work in utility access holes or controlled environmental vaults (CEVs)
- Locate buried telephone cables
- Manage weekly per diem in support of travel expenses
- Observe all safety rules and regulations
- Assist other technical personnel when requested
- Support sales and marketing-related activities
- Direct customer-facing work and sales referrals
- Work varying shifts, including mandatory overtime, weekends, and holidays
Requirements
What you’ll need- Ability to travel frequently, including in-state and out-of-state travel
- High School diploma or equivalent experience
- Ability to distinguish colors on facilities
- Ability to handle 28-foot extension ladders up to 75 lbs. during routine work
- Ability to handle utility access hole covers up to 150 lbs.
- Ability to successfully complete service tech boot camp training
- Basic computer skills, including MS Office applications
- Ability to work in confined spaces, such as attics, crawl spaces, and utility holes
- Ability to work aloft, such as on ladders
- Ability to work outside in all weather conditions and at various hours of the day/night
- Valid driver’s license and satisfactory driving record
- Positive and professional appearance and demeanor when communicating company products and services to customers
- Accountability and dependability, including punctuality and serving on call as needed
- Teamwork and technical expertise to complete work efficiently
- Active listening and problem-solving ability
- Ability to ask relevant questions to resolve problems or clarify information or directions
- Active learning and willingness to improve skills and knowledge
- Previous experience in travel-type positions (bonus)
- Prior experience as a customer-facing telecom operations technician (bonus)
- Basic electricity training/certification or documented equivalent work experience (bonus)
- ADSL installation/repair experience, including self/full installs (bonus)
- A+/Net+ certification (bonus)
