About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Provide systemwide medical direction, clinical standards, and physician oversight while maintaining local accountability for day-to-day clinical operations.
- Promote consistent, evidence-based, participant-centered care and sound clinical judgment across programs.
- Advise executive leadership, local boards, program leaders, and interdisciplinary teams on clinical priorities and decisions.
- Lead, mentor, and hold local medical leaders accountable.
- Define reporting relationships distinguishing systemwide medical oversight from local operational accountability.
- Partner with Executive Directors on provider performance, program operations, quality, utilization, compliance, and organizational priorities.
- Set performance expectations for local physician leaders and develop local medical leadership capabilities.
- Define PCP and APP expectations for interdisciplinary collaboration, documentation, service authorization, participant-centered decision-making, and PACE standards.
- Support provider recruitment, onboarding, supervision, development, engagement, and retention.
- Lead medical leadership forums.
- Lead systemwide efforts to improve participant outcomes, quality performance, and appropriate utilization.
- Monitor hospitalizations, readmissions, emergency department visits, specialty utilization, elective procedures, and other key performance measures.
- Evaluate clinical workflows and utilization practices and implement effective practices across programs.
- Guide interventions improving wellness and function, care planning, end-of-life care, and avoidable utilization.
- Partner with data and analytics teams to identify trends, performance gaps, and improvement opportunities.
- Ensure adherence to CMS, MDHHS, and PACE requirements.
- Support audit and survey readiness, corrective actions, regulatory reviews, program evaluations, and quality improvement plans.
- Monitor emerging requirements and recommend operational responses.
- Strengthen understanding of managed care risk, capitated financing, service authorization, and compliance responsibilities.
- Serve on the PACE executive leadership team and contribute to strategy, culture, and leadership accountability.
- Provide clinical perspective on growth, partnerships, acquisitions, vendor and health system relationships, and emerging care models.
- Advance innovative care and population health strategies consistent with the PACE mission.
- Represent Brio and its PACE organizations in industry, regulatory, and professional forums.
- Support communication during medical leadership transitions and reinforce shared standards, expectations, and mission.
Requirements
What you’ll need- Unrestricted physician license in the State of Michigan (MD or DO).
- Active DEA registration.
- Board Certification in Family Medicine or Internal Medicine.
- Minimum of three (3) years of experience in geriatric medicine, palliative care, and/or hospice care.
- Minimum of two (2) years of experience serving as a PACE Medical Director.
- Strong commitment to providing high-quality, participant-centered care for older adults.
