About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Provide nursing care to patients in the acute care medical and surgical inpatient units
- Work as part of a multidisciplinary team alongside physicians, therapists, social work, personal support workers, unit clerks, and administrative supervisors
- Assess and treat patients within an inter-professional environment
- Teach and educate patients and families
- Maintain accurate documentation according to College of Nurses Standards
- Maintain a safe and healthy workplace and follow injury, hazard, health, and safety procedures
- Practice in compliance with provincial legislation, hospital policies, professional regulatory standards, and nursing best practices
- Maintain professional competence through ongoing professional development, annual training, and education
- Participate in unit, department, and hospital quality improvement initiatives
- Promote and advocate for an enhanced patient experience
Requirements
What you’ll need- Current registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario
- Valid BCLS certification maintained throughout employment
- Preference for current medical/surgical experience
- I.V. Therapy experience preferred
- Telemetry experience preferred
- Computer literacy is an asset
- Teaching experience is an asset
- Excellent assessment, critical thinking, interpersonal, communication, and leadership skills
- Good attendance and availability required
- Ability to provide patient care within an inter-professional environment
- Ability to assess, treat, teach, and educate patients
- Ability to teach and coach patients and families
- Ability to maintain documentation in accordance with College of Nurses Standards
- Ability to comply with provincial legislation, hospital policies and procedures, professional regulatory standards, and nursing best practices
- Ability to complete regular professional development, annual training, and education
- Ability to participate in quality improvement initiatives
- Ability to promote and advocate for an enhanced patient experience
