Director, Absence Consulting

About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Partner with clients to solve complex absence management challenges from strategy through execution
- Provide consulting expertise on absence and disability management projects, including plan design, strategy, modeling, funding, vendor analysis, benchmarking, compliance, and audit support
- Assist with vendor capability reviews and annual RFIs
- Serve as primary contact to the Strategic Non-Medical Solutions client service team
- Draft and manage project plans involving absence assessments and client teams
- Develop and deliver final client deliverables within objectives, budgets, timelines, and quality standards
- Manage client team expectations and escalate issues to leadership
- Align work products with clients’ broader business objectives
- Build trusted advisor relationships with internal and external stakeholders
- Maintain expertise across absence management disciplines and stay current on legislation, industry trends, and vendor updates
- Share industry information with the organization and clients
- Develop articles, whitepapers, and other thought leadership content
- Represent the organization at industry conferences, client forums, and webinars
- Build relationships and collaborate on cross-functional teams
- Mentor and support internal team members in absence management
- Contribute to special projects and maintain a library of projects, RFPs, templates, market data, and deliverables
- Support client retention and growth and identify new and expanded solution opportunities
- Lead and manage direct reports through training, coaching, performance planning, and evaluation
- Balance team workloads and case assignments
- Foster professional development and a positive, collaborative work environment
Requirements
What you’ll need- BA or BS degree in a related field preferred, or equivalent work experience
- 5+ years of experience leading people in a high-performance consulting environment
- 15+ years of experience and success in the design/management of group disability and absence management plans gained in consulting, brokerage, or carrier environments
- Excellent organizational skills; ability to manage multiple priorities and tasks
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to produce “C” level reports and electronic presentations and manage appropriate electronic media
- Ability to present publicly with articulacy and knowledge
- Skilled in examining and re-engineering operations and procedures, formulating policy, and developing and implementing new strategies and procedures
- Solid understanding of business planning principles, practices, techniques, and tools
- Strong analytical and critical thinking skills
- Demonstrated sound judgment and decision-making skills
- Ability to identify potential problems and provide proactive solutions
- Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Excel, Teams, Word, PPT, Publisher) and Salesforce
- Ability to travel 40–75%, depending on client activities and business needs
