About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Drive regional growth through dealer acquisition, development, and retention
  • Deliver a high-touch, field-based partnership experience
  • Own revenue, margin, and market-share objectives
  • Lead and coach Business Development Managers in-market
  • Manage the day-to-day activities of assigned Business Development Managers
  • Develop and implement strategies to achieve Mercury growth objectives
  • Execute plans in the field alongside Business Development Managers and dealer partners
  • Maintain an active field presence with dealers and OEM partners
  • Oversee onboarding and hands-on training of Business Development Managers
  • Assess Business Development Manager performance and create coaching and development plans
  • Partner with the Mercury OEM team on dealer conquest and growth responsibilities
  • Collaborate with sales leadership to evaluate market needs and trends
  • Report to leadership on competitive products, programs, and market dynamics
  • Resolve sales conflicts between Mercury, dealers, and OEMs
  • Develop and maintain relationships with key dealers through in-person interaction and follow-up
  • Establish communication with local OEM boat representatives
  • Assess and resolve regional issues and report unresolved matters to upper management
  • Partner with category management on current products and new product introductions
  • Represent Mercury at national and regional shows, promote products, and generate sales opportunities
  • Recruit, develop, and retain top talent
  • Build a high-performing field sales team
  • Serve as a cross-functional bridge across sales, service, and marketing
  • Support program execution and resolve customer issues across the dealer network

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Bachelor’s degree desired
  • Track record of exceptional sales performance with demonstrated ability to discover business opportunities
  • 5-10 years working with a dealer organization or equivalent
  • Documented track record of success within the marine or power sports industry
  • Knowledge of marine industry dealer or related organization
  • Verbal and written communication skills
  • Excellent organizational skills
  • Ability to understand the market and apply inputs into a regional demand plan that drives production
  • High level of business acumen
  • Ability to work with diverse personalities while remaining tactful, professional, and flexible
  • Ability to coach and motivate field staff
  • Ability to be persuasive with customers while keeping customer satisfaction as a guiding factor
  • Good working knowledge of Mercury and related products
  • Prior Marine Industry experience
  • Basic Marine Technical & Product Knowledge
  • Bilingual proficiency in English and Spanish preferred
  • Solid presentation skills
  • Willingness to take responsibility and get the job done under any circumstances
  • Working knowledge of the law as it pertains to sales and advertising
  • Leadership and interpersonal skills
  • Knowledge of policy administration
  • Ability to understand, develop, and manage a budget
  • Advanced computer skills in Microsoft Applications and ability to quickly adapt to job-specific programs and processes
  • Must be currently authorized to work in the United States
  • Must be located within the designated dealer territory, including the Carolinas and Florida
  • Willingness to travel 60%
