About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Provide advising support to new and continuing students at Bunker Hill Community College
  • Employ a proactive advising model to help students make informed academic, career, and transfer pathway decisions
  • Conduct outreach to students who have stopped out and assist with returning to BHCC
  • Help students create personalized education, career, and transfer plans using electronic resources
  • Match students with relevant Learning Communities
  • Assist with registration of new, continuing, and readmitted students
  • Use TES software to review unofficial transcripts and determine placement/prerequisite eligibility
  • Participate in Start Now enrollment events
  • Refer students to faculty/program coordinators regarding course and program content and substitutions
  • Assess student needs and provide referrals to appropriate offices and services
  • Participate in early-alert outreach

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Master's degree in Education, Counseling, Psychology or a closely related field
  • Two (2) years of experience and/or training involving college admissions, academic advisement, career development, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience
  • Proficient in student information systems and technology
  • Proficient in MS Word, Excel, and Outlook
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Proven ability to work with a faculty, staff and student population
  • Strong understanding of cultural competency and ability to communicate effectively to different audiences
  • Ability to work Tuesday/Thursday on campus and Friday 9am-11am remote
  • Ability to work Saturdays during peak registration periods preferred
  • Experience working in a community college preferred
  • Ability to read, speak and write in Spanish, or another language, preferred but not required
  • Final candidate must undergo CORI and SORI background screenings
