About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Lead a team of Category Managers owning significant budgets
  • Drive development and execution of procurement strategies for high-value, critical category spend areas
  • Manage compliance with policies, including the Third Party Supplier onboarding process
  • Work with Accountable Executives, Business Owners and stakeholders to deliver category strategy and sourcing value through contract award
  • Lead supplier selection and support Category Managers in line with the Category Management 6-step process
  • Qualify suppliers through segmentation, due diligence and audit
  • Develop and maintain category strategies with annual savings and opportunity pipelines
  • Establish category priorities across direct and team expenditure
  • Align category plans and procurement activities with BGIUK, Market Unit and Business Unit goals
  • Provide external market expertise, including market drivers, supplier profiling and market developments
  • Execute strategic sourcing activities aligned with business and global strategies
  • Manage third-party risks, including segmentation, due diligence, DPIA and audit processes
  • Develop negotiation plans and lead contract negotiations
  • Deliver compliant contracts through sourcing approval and supplier signature
  • Act as procurement expert for projects, forums and supplier governance meetings
  • Serve as escalation point for Category Managers
  • Coordinate with Supplier Relationship Management on sourcing events, evaluation and contract handover
  • Develop innovative solutions and maximize total cost of ownership savings
  • Build business relationships, track performance and maximize operational efficiencies
  • Contribute to Bupa UK procurement strategy, governance and policy improvements
  • Communicate and advocate procurement across the organisation
  • Maintain commercial confidentiality and ethical supplier relationships
  • Manage a high-performing, cost-effective Category Manager team, focusing on development, resourcing and engagement

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Graduate Degree (e.g. BA, BSc, MEng) or higher (e.g. MA)
  • MCIPS or equivalent professional qualification (desirable)
  • Experience of project management skills
  • Category management experience and expertise in a related industry and spend groups
  • Extensive sourcing and contract negotiation experience
  • Proven evidence of sourcing similar products and services
  • Proven ability and experience of delivering savings and Bupa required performance requirements through strategic category planning
  • Experienced negotiator proficient at drawing upon and developing fact-based negotiation plans and operating at a senior level
  • Relevant industry and marketplace experience, including knowledge of relevant industry legislation
  • Strong communication skills
  • Comprehensive experience working closely with internal stakeholders to ensure a successful commercial outcome
  • Proficient at drafting contracts and familiar with contract law
  • Strong people management skills
