About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Install and de-install telecommunications infrastructure and equipment
  • Install racks and ironwork, including ladder racks and subfloor infrastructure
  • Manage fiber and copper cabling systems, including Panduit raceway and Fiber Management Systems
  • Determine DC power cable paths and perform wax cord lacing
  • Terminate, clean, and test RJ45, coaxial/BNC, wire wrap, and fiber optic cables
  • Measure fiber optic light levels and perform fiber scoping
  • Perform grounding using HTAP
  • Review and comprehend requirements
  • Perform redlining
  • Submit Daily Status Reports (DSR)
  • Submit Site Completion Reports (SCR)
  • Prepare survey reports
  • Identify and resolve problems related to telecommunications systems
  • Deploy independently on small to mid-sized upgrades and installation efforts

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • One to two years of exposure/experience regarding the construction, maintenance, or repair of various types of telecommunications or electronics equipment, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Completion of an accredited vocational or technical curriculum in telecommunications or a related discipline may substitute for some required experience
  • Comprehensive knowledge of several types of common communications installations
  • Theoretical and hands-on knowledge and experience with various network devices, including routers and switches, from multiple manufacturers
  • Skill and expertise necessary to install network devices per DISN Implementation Standards
  • Ability to perform technical assignments independently
  • Strong verbal, written, and graphic business communications skills
  • Professional demeanor and discretion in customer service environments
  • Willingness to travel with team members to meet installation assignment requirements
  • Active Secret clearance, or ability to obtain and maintain it
  • Candidates may be based anywhere in the US and must be open to at least 70% travel to CONUS and OCONUS locations
  • Preferred: Government network systems experience
  • Preferred: Cable running, splicing, and connector exposure
  • Preferred: Basic telecommunications installation tool kit
