About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Provide day-to-day direction for engineering teams
- Develop and mentor technical talent
- Partner with product, business, operations, and technology leaders to define strategy and deliver high-value outcomes
- Lead teams modernizing and automating Global Forwarding workflows, including pricing, rating, carrier contracts, shipment planning, booking, visibility, documents, and operations
- Move opportunities from discovery through delivery and production
- Apply automation, AI, large language models, and agentic technologies to reduce manual work and improve decision-making
- Establish patterns for AI-enabled workflows, including human-in-the-loop design, evaluation, observability, security, governance, and guardrails
- Build technology roadmaps tied to measurable business outcomes
- Define technical and organizational strategy while ensuring stability, scalability, reliability, and security
- Recruit, select, onboard, coach, develop, and retain engineering talent
- Build leadership depth and succession plans
- Manage annual merit programs for assigned teams
- Resolve dependencies, roadblocks, disputes, competing priorities, escalated technical issues, and production incidents
- Drive reuse of common platforms, services, patterns, and automation capabilities
- Establish engineering practices for architecture, testing, observability, security, reliability, and software delivery
- Track progress through presentations, scorecards, and business outcome reporting
- Represent engineering strategy, progress, risks, and tradeoffs to senior leadership
- Ensure teams meet quarterly commitments and resolve defects within service levels
- Lead organizational and technology change across globally distributed teams
Requirements
What you’ll need- 7+ years of experience working on a software engineering team progressing in complexity and responsibility
- 4+ years of experience leading and managing software engineering teams
- Experience delivering business-critical software functionality in complex enterprise environments
- Experience leading software delivery in an agile or product-oriented environment
- Experience managing systems integrations, distributed systems, APIs, and interactions between custom and commercial technologies
- Experience leading engineering teams through ambiguity, complex dependencies, and changing priorities
- Experience partnering with product, business, architecture, and operations leaders to shape strategy and delivery
- Experience communicating status, technical tradeoffs, risks, and strategy to senior leadership audiences
- Demonstrated ability to connect engineering investments and technical decisions to business outcomes
- Proven ability to develop engineers, technical leaders, and emerging people leaders
- Strong understanding of modern software engineering practices, architecture, testing, reliability, security, and software delivery
- Bachelor’s degree or a minimum of 4 years of equivalent work experience and a high school diploma/GED
- Ability to travel up to 10% domestically and internationally
- Preferred: Master’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Human-Computer Interaction, Business, or related field
- Preferred experience with ERP, TMS, freight forwarding, supply chain management, transportation, or complex operational systems
- Preferred experience applying generative AI, large language models, intelligent automation, or agentic technologies
- Preferred experience with cloud-native architecture and Azure, AWS, or GCP
