About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Complete new customer installations, repair equipment, and troubleshoot service issues
- Troubleshoot and diagnose malfunctions in Headend, HFC, fiber optic networks, and Home Terminal Units
- Repair local plant performance issues and customer-owned equipment using electronic test equipment
- Read and interpret system/network design maps
- Verify as-built documentation, compare field findings with documentation, and report findings according to company process
- Splice and/or terminate coaxial and fiber optic cables
- Mount aerial and underground active and passive devices in cabinets and vaults
- Activate active devices and test HFC/fiber optic plant equipment for optimal performance
- Survey customer-requested locations for serviceability and create maps/drawings for plant/drop extension cost estimates
- Perform underground facility locates using plant maps and electronic locating equipment
- Perform construction maintenance, including cable splicing, plant activation, damaged plant repair/replacement, and power supply inspection/repair/replacement
- Monitor plant for ingress/egress and perform signal leakage ride-out activities
- Track and repair signal leakage as necessary
- Train system technical personnel as directed by local system management
Requirements
What you’ll need- One-year certificate from college or technical school; or three to four years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience
- Must successfully complete Sparklight Technical Training Center Advanced Technician course within 6 months of accepting position
- Working knowledge of signal level meters, volt-ohm meters (VOM), leakage detection equipment, time domain reflectometer (TDR), optical time domain reflectometer (OTDR), and other related test equipment
- Knowledge of FCC, NEC, NESC, OSHA, DOT, and applicable local ordinances
- Valid driver's license of the state in which the individual is employed
- Ability to work a variable schedule and respond to service interruptions during regular business hours, shift work, or on-call
- Availability to work overtime, including weekends, evenings, and holidays, as required
- Must pass background check, drug screening, and reference check
- DOT-regulated positions require passing a road test, driving-record safety review, drug testing, DOT physical, and past-employer safety performance history
