About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Develop state-of-the-art database solutions for high-transaction systems
- Design database schemas based on business requirements and entities
- Write stored procedures, functions, views, triggers, and constraints
- Create deployment and rollback scripts for database objects
- Analyze access patterns and optimize indexes, constraints, foreign keys, and queries
- Troubleshoot database performance problems and propose short-term fixes and long-term solutions
- Work with architects and guide developers in the evolution of the data layer
- Research options and develop prototypes before introducing technologies into the tech stack
- Stay current with databases, AWS, microservices, and cloud-native technologies
- Prototype new tools and features for adoption
- Act as a subject matter expert and collaborate with engineering and DevOps teams on data architecture and strategy in AWS
Requirements
What you’ll need- B.S. in Computer Science or related field and 5+ years of related experience, or M.S. degree and 3+ years of experience
- 5+ years of hands-on SQL Server development experience
- Expert knowledge of SQL Server, including triggers, stored procedures, and user-defined functions
- Authoritative understanding of SQL Server concurrency features, transactions, and locking
- Excellent data modeling and schema design skills, including normalization and denormalization
- Understanding of database maintenance best practices, including index and file management, backups, failure recovery, defragmentation, documentation, disk space analysis, hardware utilization, and automated error notification
- Basic SQL Server administration skills, including backups, restores, snapshots, user/role security, and access permissions
- Experience operating SQL Server in AWS, including Amazon RDS for SQL Server, RDS Custom, or SQL Server on EC2
- Familiarity with AWS microservices architecture and designing databases for microservice-based applications
- Experience optimizing data access from microservices
- Knowledge of Docker and Kubernetes, AWS ECS/EKS, in a microservices context
