About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Lead and develop the Bid Centre and Social Value team of approximately eight professionals
  • Own bid qualification and go/no-go decisions
  • Lead complex public and private sector tenders, frameworks, direct awards, and strategic proposals
  • Develop win themes, value propositions, and bid strategies
  • Partner with Sales early to shape customer strategies and identify routes to winning
  • Collaborate with Sales, Finance, Legal, HR, Marketing, Supply Chain, Service & Support, and other teams
  • Lead the Social Value strategy and develop initiatives and partnerships with measurable social, environmental, and economic impact
  • Monitor win rates, revenue won, profitability, pipeline conversion, and bid cycle times
  • Improve bid content library, knowledge base, methodologies, and best-practice frameworks
  • Ensure bids meet governance, commercial, legal, and procurement requirements
  • Lead tender debriefs and apply lessons learned
  • Coach and develop team members
  • Monitor procurement, framework, Social Value, and competitor developments and translate insights into actions

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Significant experience managing complex bids, tenders or proposal functions within a B2B, technology, services or solutions-led organisation
  • Strong track record of helping secure profitable business through public and/or private sector tenders, frameworks and strategic proposals
  • Experience leading, coaching and developing teams and building a high-performance culture
  • Strong understanding of procurement processes, tender governance, and commercial decision-making
  • Excellent written communication skills and ability to develop persuasive, customer-focused proposals and value propositions
  • Strong commercial acumen, balancing customer requirements, competitiveness, risk, and profitability
  • Ability to influence senior stakeholders across multiple business functions
  • Experience using data and performance measures to identify trends, improve bid performance, and drive continuous improvement
  • Strong organisational skills and ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines
  • Experience in Social Value, ESG, sustainability, or community impact programmes particularly valuable
  • Understanding of translating customer objectives into credible, measurable Social Value commitments
  • Experience developing programmes or partnerships delivering positive social, economic, or environmental outcomes ideally
  • A degree or equivalent professional experience welcomed
  • APMP accreditation desirable
  • Professional qualifications or development within Bid Management, Procurement, Sustainability, ESG or Project Management advantageous
  • Evidence of continuous professional development relevant to commercial, bid, procurement or Social Value disciplines
