About the role

Key responsibilities & impact

Own all aspects of Canopy’s accounting function
Help the CFO manage operations from revenue contracting through recognition and collection
Define the accounting team roadmap and deliver accounting services
Implement a new AI-native ERP and modernize the finance technology stack
Own revenue recognition, including ASC 606, hardware, implementation services, contract modifications, deferred revenue, commissions, and reporting
Partner with Sales, Legal, CX, and Finance on order-to-cash accounting implications
Automate reconciliations, flux analysis, and accounting workflows using AI
Partner with Operations on inventory tracking, reserves, and reporting
Re-engineer monthly close processes to achieve a seven-business-day close, progressing toward five days or better
Own technical accounting policies and GAAP compliance
Lead the annual audit, manage tax compliance, administer the corporate insurance program, and support investor reporting
Hire, mentor, and develop the accounting team
Partner with leadership, participate in major contract and operational discussions, and surface risks and opportunities

Requirements

What you’ll need

10+ years of accounting experience
At least 4 years owning the close at a high-growth, venture-backed startup
Active CPA license
Big 4 experience
Hands-on builder mindset; able to perform, automate, and teach the close process
Collaborative mindset and ability to partner cross-functionally
Demonstrable experience hiring, mentoring, and growing staff
Experience and comfort with AI tools and native systems
Experience implementing an AI-native ERP is a big plus
Experience owning a well-run annual audit process
Excellent technical accounting skills
SaaS experience required
Healthcare experience is a plus
