About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Lead the engineering team behind consequential data and AI work at Capital Group
- Build governed data products relied upon by CGMC, the Capital Operating Group, the Executive Office, and Business Councils
- Set technical direction and build alongside the engineering team
- Build the founding engineering team for CBI, including hiring, coaching, and setting the operating model
- Extend EDO AI Catalyst with skills, agents, and automation to accelerate data product delivery
- Own difficult technical decisions for engineering teams
- Set solution design for CBI data products and determine how AI powers them
- Develop a modern data catalog for humans and agents
- Implement source-to-target lineage with impact analysis
- Establish shared metrics and dimensions for BI, agents, and executive narratives
- Build team culture and hiring standards from the ground up
- Recruit, coach, and grow a diverse engineering team
- Establish how the team builds, ships, and maintains AI skills and agents alongside people
- Represent CBI engineering in Enterprise Data Office forums
- Engage with business stakeholders as data consumers
- Coordinate with Data Platform and Global Data Architecture on the shared lakehouse foundation
Requirements
What you’ll need- 10+ years building full-stack data products end-to-end
- Hands-on experience with Databricks, Unity Catalog, dbt, Python, and SQL
- Recent experience with a modern UI framework such as React or equivalent
- Direct experience embedding LLMs, retrieval-augmented generation, and agents into data engineering workflows
- Track record as a hands-on technical leader or engineering manager for a high-performing team
- Experience operating production data platforms end-to-end, including SLAs, data quality and contract enforcement, observability, cost, incident response, and CI/CD
- Strong grasp of data modeling and data product design
- Experience with Financial Services, ideally Investment Management, or ability to ramp quickly on complex regulated domains
- Comfort partnering across product, business, risk, and platform stakeholders
- High agency, curiosity, and resilience in ambiguous problems
- Disciplined judgment on trade-offs between scope, speed, and quality
- Clear communication across technical and business audiences
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience
- Databricks Apps experience is a plus
- Familiarity with Databricks Genie, Unity Catalog metric views, or Open Data Contract Standard (ODCS) is a plus
