About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Follow privacy trends, new privacy laws, and emerging privacy risks domestically and internationally
- Maintain subject matter expertise in applicable privacy laws and regulations
- Provide guidance, advice, and effective challenge on privacy risks of business initiatives and changes
- Support business lines through interactions and forum engagements
- Consult with legal counsel and subject matter experts on privacy compliance matters
- Map legal and regulatory requirements to business processes and activities
- Advise on privacy requirements, controls, monitoring, remediation, corrective actions, and regulatory changes
- Engage with compliance testing teams on privacy compliance matters
- Review privacy-related complaints and provide remediation guidance
- Escalate and consult with subject matter experts when necessary
- Prepare and participate in reporting on privacy compliance activities
- Travel to various Capital One locations as necessary
Requirements
What you’ll need- Bachelor’s Degree or Military experience
- At least 3 years of experience in privacy, compliance, legal, risk management, or audit
- Understanding of key regulatory and audit requirements and three lines of defense risk management framework
- Preferred: Master’s or Juris Doctor Degree
- Preferred: 6+ years of experience in privacy compliance, legal, risk management, or audit
- Preferred: CIPP, CRCM, or AIGP certification(s)

- Strong project management, process management, and organizational skills
- Knowledge of applicable privacy laws and regulations, including FCRA, FACTA, TCPA, TSR, CAN-SPAM, GLBA, PIPEDA, UK DPA, GDPR, FFIEC guidance, CCPA, CA SB1, and COPPA
- Highly developed written, oral, presentation, interpersonal, influencing, judgment, integrity, and discretion skills
- Ability to challenge first-line risk taking, assessments, and mitigation efforts
- Ability to work across business lines and functions and with senior management
- Ability to work autonomously, adapt quickly, solve problems, and navigate ambiguous situations
