About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Advise Capital One’s Financial Services Division on major challenges and significant business initiatives
- Counsel the auto finance business, sales teams, leaders, analysts, product managers, and designers
- Identify complex risks, solve problems, and shape business strategies affecting customers and internal partners
- Advise on consumer-finance laws and regulations, strategy, data, and risk
- Understand the auto finance business, technology, and evolving legal and regulatory landscapes
- Foster innovation by applying applicable laws and charting courses for rolling out, marketing, and selling innovative products
- Translate legal, business, technology, regulatory, and risk concepts for analysts and senior executives
- Work hand-in-hand with the business to solve problems and take ownership of business outcomes
- Collaborate with Legal Department colleagues to vet and scale risk
- Push responsible innovation in challenging gray areas
Requirements
What you’ll need- Juris Doctor from an accredited law school
- Active member in good standing of at least one state bar
- At least 7 years of experience as an attorney in a law firm, in-house legal department, or government agency
- Preferred: 5+ years advising financial services or technology companies
- Preferred: 5+ years working as an attorney on matters related to auto finance, product development, technology, and AI
- Experience advising companies on regulatory compliance, including UDAAP, FCRA, GLBA, ECOA, and TILA
- Strong executive communication skills
- Impeccable written and oral communication skills
- Strategic influencing skills and ability to drive consensus across diverse teams
- Ability to simplify complex ideas and problems into digestible concepts and solutions
- Track record of thriving and leading in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial, and dynamic environment
- Ability to work effectively both in teams and independently
- Ability to make effective and integrated decisions and collaborate at all levels
- Ability to handle ambiguous situations, complex concepts, and details
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
