About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Perform a key risk management role for Capital One’s network and merchant businesses
- Establish and implement the risk management advisory function within a global payment network scheme
- Deliver risk and compliance advice for business processes worldwide
- Serve as a subject matter expert for critical areas within a network scheme and align the business with Capital One’s enterprise risk management framework
- Collaborate with first- and second-line functions to analyze the risk management program framework and its applicability to network and merchant services
- Educate and influence risk management colleagues and leaders regarding specialized considerations
- Provide advice and challenge on risks affecting network and merchant businesses
- Advise business leaders on regulatory requirements, policies, and industry standards
- Develop expert-level understanding of end-to-end network and merchant business processes worldwide
- Identify trends in business data and assess network payments risks, including emerging and external risks
- Maintain expertise in payments industry practices and applicable global laws and regulations
- Ensure compliance requirements are applied to business expansions, new products, downstream entities, card acceptance opportunities, and global markets
- Develop relationships across Compliance, Legal, Audit, and other lines of defense
- Coach and develop direct reports and extended team members
- Support regulatory exam and engagement preparation and delivery
- Manage, develop, and coach a Risk Advisory Team
- Participate in reporting activities to business and Risk Management leadership
Requirements
What you’ll need- Bachelor’s Degree or military experience
- At least 8 years of legal, compliance, or risk management experience OR at least 8 years of regulatory experience in consumer financial services or payments industry
- At least 4 years of experience in people management
- At least 4 years of experience consulting with and presenting to executive leadership
- No new employment authorization sponsorship or immigration-related support available
- Preferred: Master’s Degree in Business Administration, Finance, Risk Management, Information Systems, or a related analytical field
- Preferred: Proven experience in a first or second Line of Defense risk management role
- Preferred: Familiarity with US and international operational resilience and risk management regulatory standards, including OCC Payment Systems Guidance, Payment Card Industry Compliance, and NIST
- Preferred: CBCP/MBCP, CRISC, CISM, or other operational risk or resilience designations
- Preferred: Experience leading data-driven risk analyses, building risk-based hypotheses, and translating complex technical data into executive reports
