About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Manage global tax provisioning, financial statement reporting, and forecasting operations for Capital One and its acquisitions and divestitures
  • Manage the company’s effective tax rate and deferred tax planning
  • Partner to evaluate tax implications of strategic corporate acquisitions
  • Forecast tax credit capacities
  • Lead preparation and review of global corporate income tax provision under ASC 740 for quarterly and annual financial statements
  • Lead tax-related disclosures in SEC filings, including 10-K and 10-Q
  • Serve as the main point of contact for internal and external SEC reporting stakeholders
  • Manage consolidated effective tax rate and global deferred tax assets and liabilities
  • Support tax forecasting processes and provide senior executive leadership with data-driven insights into ETR, DTA, and credit capacity projections
  • Manage and develop a team of 3 tax professionals
  • Foster a collaborative and inclusive environment and develop team structures for future business needs
  • Invest in associate development beyond day-to-day responsibilities
  • Maintain the internal control environment over financial reporting for income taxes in compliance with SOX standards and company policy
  • Report to the Senior Director - Tax Accounting and Capital Planning

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or other quantitative discipline, or military experience
  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA) designation currently active or previously achieved and currently inactive
  • At least 7 years of progressive corporate tax experience within a public corporation or an accounting firm
  • At least 3 years in a dedicated people-management capacity leading teams
  • At this time, Capital One will not sponsor a new applicant for employment authorization for this position
  • Preferred: Master’s in Taxation (MT), MBA, or JD/LLM
  • Expert-level knowledge of accounting for income taxes under US GAAP and SEC reporting regulations
  • Mastery of ASC 740
  • Familiarity with IFRS
  • Strong foundation in tax accounting nuances of business combinations, purchase price allocations, and post-merger integration
  • Exceptional quantitative skills to model complex financial outcomes, tax law shifts, and multi-year corporate outlooks
  • Familiarity with enterprise tax provisioning software such as Corptax and ONESOURCE
  • Familiarity with data tools such as Alteryx and Power BI
