About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Lead a portfolio of diverse technology projects and a team of developers experienced in distributed microservices and full-stack systems
  • Build and enhance internal tools, platforms, and AI-powered workflows, including Claude Code integrations and skills marketplaces
  • Improve engineering productivity, code quality, and developer experience through developer tooling
  • Collaborate with digital product managers to deliver robust, scalable AWS cloud solutions
  • Use programming languages including Java, Scala, Python, Go, Node.js, JavaScript, and TypeScript
  • Work with open-source RDBMS and NoSQL databases, Docker, Kubernetes, and modern AWS infrastructure
  • Provide technical leadership across Agile teams and promote system design, software development, operational excellence, and ownership
  • Partner with enterprise architects to define service boundaries, integration patterns, reusable frameworks, and long-term technology strategy
  • Identify technical debt and implement targeted refactoring to optimize system performance
  • Monitor emerging technology trends, experiment with new technologies, participate in tech communities, and mentor engineering peers

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Bachelor's Degree or higher in Computer Science or a related quantitative field (Statistics, Economics, Operations Research, Analytics, Mathematics, Engineering)
  • At least 4 years of experience in software engineering; internship experience does not apply
  • At least 2 years of experience with public cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, Azure), cloud-based productivity tools, or virtualization technologies
  • Capital One will not sponsor a new applicant for employment authorization or offer immigration-related support
  • Preferred: Master’s Degree in Computer Science or a related field
  • Preferred: 7+ years of experience coding with more than two of Python, TypeScript, or JavaScript
  • Preferred: 3+ years of experience with databases and database management systems
  • Preferred: 3+ years of experience with AWS, GCP, Azure, cloud-based productivity tools, or virtualization technologies
  • Preferred: 4+ years of experience contributing to open source frameworks
  • Preferred: 3+ years of experience with front-end JavaScript or TypeScript frameworks
  • Preferred: 4+ years of experience creating synchronous and asynchronous APIs
  • Preferred: 3+ years of experience with CI/CD pipelines, infrastructure as code, and automated testing frameworks
  • Preferred: 3+ years of experience using Git-based version-control systems
  • Preferred: 3+ years of experience troubleshooting technical issues within cloud environments
  • Preferred: Experience with modern AI-based coding tools and IDE copilots
  • Preferred: 1+ year of experience mentoring engineers and driving professional development within technical teams
  • Preferred: 1+ year of experience using observability to identify and optimize performance bottlenecks in distributed systems
  • Preferred: Experience with interactive AI tooling beyond basic code completion
  • Preferred: Experience leading cross-functional engineering efforts or large-scale technical initiatives
  • Preferred: Experience establishing and enforcing coding standards and design patterns across teams
