Key responsibilities & impact

Lead a portfolio of diverse technology projects and a team of developers building distributed microservices and full-stack systems
Create solutions that meet Capital One’s regulatory needs
Stay current with technology trends, experiment with emerging technologies, and participate in internal and external technology communities
Mentor members of the engineering community
Collaborate with digital product managers to deliver robust cloud-based solutions supporting millions of Americans’ financial empowerment
Use Java, Scala, Python, Go, Node.js, JavaScript, TypeScript, open-source relational and NoSQL databases, Docker, Kubernetes, and AWS tools and services
Provide technical leadership across Agile teams and establish standards for design, development, and operational excellence
Partner with architects to define service boundaries, integration patterns, and reusable frameworks
Identify improvement opportunities, refactor systems, reduce technical debt, and improve performance
Influence long-term technology strategy through evaluation of emerging tools and practices in a you-build-it-you-own-it environment

Requirements

What you’ll need

Bachelor's Degree or higher in Computer Science or a related quantitative field (Statistics, Economics, Operations Research, Analytics, Mathematics, Engineering)
At least 4 years of experience in software engineering; internship experience does not apply
At least 2 years of experience with public cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, Azure), cloud-based productivity tools, or virtualization technologies
No employer-sponsored immigration support or work authorization sponsorship for new applicants
Preferred: Master’s Degree in Computer Science or a related field
Preferred: 7+ years of experience coding with more than two of Go, Java, JavaScript/TypeScript, Python, Rust, C#, Scala
Preferred: experience with databases and database management systems, cloud platforms, open source frameworks, front-end JavaScript/TypeScript frameworks, APIs, CI/CD, infrastructure as code, automated testing, Git-based version control, cloud troubleshooting, AI coding tools, mentoring, observability, interactive AI tooling, cross-functional engineering efforts, coding standards, and design patterns
