About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Lead a portfolio of diverse technology projects and a team of developers
- Support mission-critical ATM, Branch, and Cafe platforms, including hardware, middleware, kiosks, and physical in-person experiences
- Integrate third-party technologies and vendor platforms into Capital One's first-party stack
- Manage vulnerabilities and enforce rigorous security standards
- Serve as the approving architect and provide technical leadership across multiple teams
- Evaluate system designs for secure, industry-standard patterns covering third-party interconnects, network stacks, and hardware integration
- Collaborate with Tech, ATM Operations, Product, ISO, and Design Engineering roles on platform roadmaps and shared services strategies
- Build robust solutions bridging front-end, back-end, and operating systems
- Partner with vendors and product leaders to define technical requirements and develop technical roadmaps
- Design and implement large-scale, distributed, cloud-native systems with high reliability and performance
- Incorporate firewalls, routing, and network security into critical networking components
- Stay current with technology trends, experiment with hardware/software integrations, and mentor engineering community members
Requirements
What you’ll need- Bachelor's Degree or higher in Computer Science or a related quantitative field (Statistics, Economics, Operations Research, Analytics, Mathematics, Engineering)
- At least 6 years of experience in software engineering (internship experience does not apply)
- At least 3 years of experience with public cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, Azure), cloud-based productivity tools, or virtualization technologies
- 7+ years of full-stack software engineering experience across front-end, back-end, and operating systems preferred
- 4+ years of experience integrating third-party technologies and vendor platforms into first-party technology stacks preferred
- 4+ years of experience with network architecture, including firewalls, routing, and network security protocols preferred
- 4+ years of experience supporting hardware, middleware, or in-person physical technology experiences preferred
- 4+ years of experience in system design, serving as an approving architect or technical lead for complex, distributed systems preferred
- 4+ years of experience with public cloud platforms, cloud-based productivity tools, or virtualization technologies preferred
- 2+ years of experience managing technical vendor relationships and translating vendor capabilities into architecture roadmaps preferred
- 2+ years of experience with mobile application development preferred
- Experience with interactive AI tooling beyond basic code completion preferred
- Experience leading cross-functional engineering efforts or large-scale technical initiatives preferred
- 1+ year of experience establishing and enforcing coding standards and design patterns across teams preferred
- 1+ year of experience implementing observability and reliability practices at scale preferred
- Ability to work with Java, Scala, Python, Go, Node.js, JavaScript, and TypeScript
- Experience with open-source relational and NoSQL databases
- Experience with Docker and Kubernetes
- Experience with AWS tools and services
- Experience with third-party technologies, vendor platforms, hardware, middleware, firewalls, routing, and network security protocols
