Lead a portfolio of diverse technology projects and a team of developers with distributed microservices and full-stack systems experience
Create solutions that help meet regulatory needs for Capital One
Stay current with technology trends, experiment with and learn new technologies, and participate in internal and external technology communities
Mentor members of the engineering community
Collaborate with digital product managers to deliver robust cloud-based solutions supporting financial empowerment for millions of Americans
Use programming languages, databases, container orchestration services, and AWS tools and services
Provide technical leadership and direction across Agile teams
Set standards for design, development, and operational excellence
Partner with architects to define service boundaries, integration patterns, and reusable frameworks
Identify areas for improvement through targeted refactoring and efforts to reduce technical debt and enhance system performance
Influence long-term technology strategy through evaluation of emerging tools and practices in a “you build it, you own it” environment
Support technical onboarding, training, and continuous education initiatives through the Tech College Engineering Community Support team

Requirements

What you’ll need

Bachelor's Degree or higher in Computer Science or a related quantitative field (Statistics, Economics, Operations Research, Analytics, Mathematics, Engineering)
At least 4 years of experience in software engineering (internship experience does not apply)
At least 2 years of experience with public cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, Azure), cloud-based productivity tools, or virtualization technologies
No employer-sponsored immigration support or new employment authorization sponsorship available
Preferred: Master's Degree in Computer Science or a related field
Preferred: 7+ years of coding experience with more than two of Go, Java, JavaScript/TypeScript, Python, Rust, C#, Scala
Preferred: 3+ years of experience with databases and database management systems
Preferred: 3+ years of experience with AWS, GCP, Azure, cloud-based productivity tools, or virtualization technologies
Preferred: 4+ years contributing to open source frameworks
Preferred: 3+ years with front-end JavaScript or TypeScript frameworks
Preferred: 4+ years creating synchronous and asynchronous APIs
Preferred: 3+ years with CI/CD pipelines, infrastructure as code, and automated testing frameworks
Preferred: 3+ years using Git-based version-control systems (Git, GitHub, Bitbucket)
Preferred: 3+ years troubleshooting technical issues within cloud environments
Preferred: Experience with modern AI-based coding tools and IDE copilots
Preferred: 1+ year mentoring engineers and driving professional development within technical teams
