About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Manage, draft, and negotiate procurement transactions supporting multiple lines of business and functional groups
- Identify legal issues and risks in procurement and outsourcing contracts
- Work with legal stakeholders to draft appropriate terms and conditions
- Advise on internal guidelines and procedures
- Build and maintain relationships with Enterprise Supplier Management and legal stakeholders
- Manage repeatable, controlled processes for transactional work
- Manage and coordinate outside counsel, including service delivery and costs, when necessary
- Create reports and discuss trends and metrics with senior Legal and ESM leaders
- Create and provide training on key issues and processes as needed
- Act as backup Legal representative in procurement risk gate meetings
- Determine whether transactions are in scope for Legal engagement
- Delegate and manage assignments for backup attorneys as needed
Requirements
What you’ll need- Juris Doctor from an accredited law school
- Active member in good standing of at least one state bar
- At least 3 years of experience as an attorney in a law firm environment, at a government agency, as a military judge advocate, or as in-house counsel
- Experience with third-party procurement, vendor, or outsourcing transactions
- 4+ years of attorney experience with a focus on third-party procurement, vendor, or outsourcing transactions (preferred)
- 2+ years of experience providing advice and counsel on complex procurement transactions (preferred)
- 2+ years of experience in the financial services industry (preferred)
- Experience identifying issues related to privacy (preferred)
- Ability to manage multiple transactions or matters, take on new responsibilities, and handle novel issues
- Ability to work in a dynamic environment and adapt to changing needs
- Ability and desire to learn new areas of law
- Ability and willingness to work as a team player
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Strong analytical and organizational skills
- Experience with Google Workspace (preferred)
- Must be authorized to work without new employment authorization sponsorship from Capital One
