About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Lead, manage, and grow multiple teams of product-focused software and data engineers
- Incubate emerging technology and open-source products across platforms
- Modernize existing technology stacks and data platforms
- Collaborate with internal teams on automation and machine learning opportunities
- Partner with architects, product owners, data professionals, and engineers to implement new applications
- Work across Agile teams to design, develop, test, implement, and support technical solutions
- Deploy applications into AWS environments and provide operational support
- Conduct design and code reviews for standards compliance
- Communicate technical concepts and data outcomes to internal and external stakeholders
- Oversee data platform and pipeline design and health, including scalability, resilience, and operational efficiency
- Mentor engineers and elevate team capabilities through hands-on technical contribution
- Lead transformative data initiatives end to end, making architectural decisions and evaluating platforms such as Snowflake and Databricks
Requirements
What you’ll need- Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or a related quantitative field (Statistics, Economics, Operations Research, Analytics, Mathematics, Engineering)
- At least 9 years of experience in data engineering
- At least 7 years of people management experience
- At least 7 years of experience programming with Python, Java, or Scala
- At least 5 years of experience driving technical delivery of roadmap features
- At least 6 years of experience designing and developing data pipelines
- At least 4 years of experience in data modeling and designing end-to-end data solutions using relational and non-relational database systems
- Capital One will consider sponsoring a new qualified applicant for employment authorization
- Preferred: Master’s Degree in Computer Science or a related field
- Preferred: experience with Python, SQL, Scala, or Java; AWS, Microsoft Azure, or Google Cloud; EMR, Spark, Glue, or Databricks; streaming data pipelines; Monte Carlo, Splunk, Airflow, Dagster; MongoDB, Cassandra, DynamoDB; Snowflake, Redshift; Agile; reusable data products; Data Governance, Data Standardization, and Data Modeling
