About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Steer global tax provisioning, financial statement reporting, and forecasting operations for Capital One and its acquisitions and divestitures
  • Advise the Chief Tax Officer and senior finance leadership on the effective tax rate and capital planning
  • Partner on evaluating tax implications of strategic corporate acquisitions and forecast tax credit capacities
  • Lead preparation, review, and sign-off of the global corporate income tax provision under ASC 740 for quarterly and annual financial statements
  • Oversee tax-related disclosures in SEC filings, including 10-K and 10-Q filings
  • Manage the consolidated effective tax rate and global deferred tax assets and liabilities
  • Lead tax forecasting to provide executive leadership with projections for ETR, DTA, and credit capacity
  • Direct tax workstreams for corporate stress testing and capital adequacy assessments, including CCAR
  • Manage, mentor, and develop a team of four tax professionals
  • Partner with Tax Planning on tax accounting and reporting impacts of acquisitions, divestitures, and joint ventures
  • Maintain internal controls over income-tax financial reporting in compliance with SOX and company policy

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or another quantitative discipline, or military experience
  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA) designation currently active or previously achieved and currently inactive
  • At least 10 years of progressive corporate tax experience within a public corporation or accounting firm
  • At least 5 years in a dedicated people-management capacity leading teams
  • Preferred: Master’s degree in Taxation, MBA, JD, or LLM
  • Mastery of ASC 740
  • Expert-level knowledge of accounting for income taxes under US GAAP and SEC reporting regulations
  • Familiarity with IFRS is a plus
  • Exceptional quantitative skills for complex tax modeling and multi-year corporate outlooks
  • Strong foundation in M&A tax accounting, business combinations, purchase price allocations, and post-merger integration
  • Familiarity with enterprise tax provisioning software such as Corptax and ONESOURCE
  • Familiarity with data tools such as Alteryx and Power BI
  • Proven experience with CCAR processes, capital planning, and highly regulated corporate financial environments
