Key responsibilities & impact

Lead a portfolio of diverse technology projects and a team of developers building distributed microservices and full-stack systems that meet regulatory needs
Stay current with technology trends, experiment with and learn new technologies, participate in internal and external technology communities, mentor engineering community members, and occasionally code or evaluate code
Collaborate with digital product managers to deliver robust cloud-based solutions supporting financial empowerment for millions of Americans
Lead teams using Java, Scala, Python, Go, Node.js, JavaScript, TypeScript, open-source relational and NoSQL databases, Docker, Kubernetes, and AWS tools and services
Lead multiple Agile engineering teams or programs, providing strategic direction and ensuring delivery of large-scale, cross-functional initiatives
Partner with product, architecture, and platform leaders to define multi-year technology roadmaps and investment priorities
Develop and manage Lead Engineers and engineering leads, building succession plans and scaling leadership capability
Align engineering execution with enterprise goals and influence portfolio-level decisions and trade-offs
Drive end-to-end design and implementation of large-scale, distributed, or cloud-native systems with high reliability and performance requirements

Requirements

What you’ll need

Bachelor's Degree or higher in Computer Science or a related quantitative field (Statistics, Economics, Operations Research, Analytics, Mathematics, Engineering)
At least 6 years of experience in software engineering; internship experience does not apply
At least 3 years of experience with public cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, Azure), cloud-based productivity tools, or virtualization technologies
At least 3 years of people management experience
Preferred: Master's Degree in Computer Science or a related field
Preferred: 1+ year leading architectural design reviews and influencing enterprise-wide technical standards and methodologies
Preferred: 4+ years with databases and database management systems
Preferred: 4+ years with AWS, GCP, Azure, cloud-based productivity tools, or virtualization technologies
Preferred: 4+ years with CI/CD pipelines, infrastructure as code, and automated testing frameworks
Preferred: 4+ years using Git-based version-control systems
Preferred: 4+ years troubleshooting technical issues in cloud environments
Preferred: 5+ years contributing to open source frameworks
Preferred: 5+ years with front-end JavaScript or TypeScript frameworks
Preferred: 5+ years creating synchronous and asynchronous APIs
Preferred: 9+ years coding with more than two of Go, Java, JavaScript/TypeScript, Python, Rust, C#, or Scala
Preferred: Experience with modern AI-based coding tools and IDE copilots
Preferred: Experience managing multi-team engineering organizations or leading strategic technical programs spanning multiple domains
Preferred: Experience defining and tracking engineering OKRs aligned to business outcomes
Preferred: Experience shaping organization design and talent strategy for scaling engineering capabilities
Preferred: Experience presenting technology roadmaps and investment cases to executive leadership
