About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Architect the transition from permanent access to zero standing privileges through automated access elevation and revocation
  • Lead abstraction of IGA components toward a centralized, policy-based, stack-agnostic access model
  • Design contextual and adaptive authorization using device posture, network risk, and user behavior telemetry
  • Build developer-centric Identity-as-a-Service APIs and self-service capabilities
  • Ensure IAM solutions meet stringent regulatory and audit standards in a regulated financial environment
  • Define and evangelize a technical vision for the identity domain
  • Decompose complex problems into practical, operational solutions
  • Ensure quality of technical design and implementation
  • Advise on performance, scalability, and operability
  • Produce communications, code samples, blog posts, and knowledge-sharing materials
  • Drive modernization from monolithic systems to microservice architectures and event-driven platforms
  • Collaborate with senior engineering and architecture leaders on platform strategy and API standards
  • Mentor engineers and strengthen technical expertise across engineering and product communities
  • Lead cross-divisional projects promoting technology best practices and enhancements

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Bachelor's Degree or higher in Computer Science or a related quantitative field (Statistics, Economics, Operations Research, Analytics, Mathematics, Engineering)
  • At least 7 years of experience in software engineering and solution architecture, enterprise architecture and design patterns, cloud computing (AWS, Microsoft Azure, Google Cloud), and data architecture
  • Capital One will consider sponsoring a new qualified applicant for employment authorization
  • Preferred: Master's Degree in Computer Science or Software Engineering
  • Preferred: 10+ years of experience in software engineering and solution architecture, enterprise architecture and design patterns, web technologies, distributed HPC and ML systems, cloud computing, and data architecture
  • Preferred: 10+ years of professional coding experience in Go, Java, JavaScript/TypeScript, Python, Rust, C#, or Scala
  • Preferred: 8+ years of experience with databases and database management systems
  • Preferred: 10+ years of professional experience across the full system development lifecycle
  • Preferred: 8+ years of experience with public cloud platforms, cloud-based productivity tools, or virtualization technologies
  • Preferred: 10+ years of experience with networking protocols and third-party distributed-system integration
  • Preferred: 5+ years mentoring senior engineers and driving professional development
  • Preferred: 2+ years leading cross-domain architectural reviews and establishing coding and design standards
  • Preferred: Expertise in the strategic application of agentic AI coding tools
