About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Own Technology and Engineering at C-level and report to the CEO
- Lead Engineering with full functional and disciplinary responsibility
- Work as a peer to the CPO
- Translate company and product strategy into a technology strategy with clear capabilities, investments, risks and measurable 18-month proof points
- Lead Engineering teams and Engineering leads across Platform, Infrastructure, DevOps/SRE, developer experience and Engineering-owned quality automation
- Build a strong leadership layer, clear domain ownership, distributed knowledge and resilient internal and external capacity
- Own architecture, technology choices, reliability, security implementation, technical evidence and reporting, and regulated development for critical clinic and hospital workflows
- Maintain architecture and ownership evidence, Caspar IP ownership, auditable security and compliance evidence, AI strategy and elimination of critical single-person dependencies
- Own the incident system and lead major or trust-critical escalations
- Ensure postmortem actions are completed and verified
- Plan the Engineering budget and capacity
- Decide on technology, vendors and build, buy or outsource options within the approved budget
- Shape AI-enabled Engineering through current personal practice while maintaining security, maintainability, review quality, traceability and regulated assurance
- Make credible commitments with Product, owning technical feasibility, capacity and release readiness
- Involve Medical, Quality, Information Security, Privacy and Legal early, turning requirements into reusable controls, tests and evidence
- Establish clear data contracts with Data
- Represent Caspar in high-stakes technical discussions with clinics, hospital IT, integration partners, auditors, investors and the board
- Build Engineering leadership and accountable ownership for critical systems
- Connect technology choices and investment to company strategy and complete a deep external technical review
- Improve delivery predictability, release quality, resilience and regulated evidence
- Make cooperation between Engineering, Infrastructure and independent Security durable and effective
- Create measurable impact through AI-enabled Engineering without weakening security or quality
Requirements
What you’ll need- Managed multiple Engineering leaders and led a multi-team organization through a meaningful scale or rigor transition
- Owned technology strategy, budget, capacity and build, buy or outsource decisions at executive level, with evidence of impact
- Led Engineering in regulated, security-critical or high-availability systems
- Built and scaled cloud-SaaS products, ideally in a regulated environment
- Broad systems depth across backend services, web and mobile clients, APIs and integrations, data flows, observability, security and operations
- Currently works hands-on with agentic development workflows and can demonstrate how AI output was used, constrained or rejected and scaled
- Shipped products achieving meaningful customer and business outcomes
- Product judgment and ability to make business and technical trade-offs explicit
- Ability to challenge Product constructively and protect credible commitments under pressure
- Ability to build trust with teams, customers, partners, auditors, investors and boards
- Business-fluent in German and English
- Must live and perform the role from Germany starting on the first day of work
- Must already have authorization to work in Germany
- A university degree or fixed number of years is not required
