About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Develop, implement, and execute sales strategies and tactics for company products and aftermarket services
  • Sell through direct sales channels and manufacturer representatives to key and target accounts
  • Manage representatives in the territory, including forecasting, business plans, and follow-up on open opportunities
  • Create and identify opportunities, qualify leads, select products, generate and follow up on proposals, and capture new business
  • Develop direct business, representative relationships, and strategies for penetrating OEMs, architectural engineers, end users, and direct markets
  • Travel extensively to customers and prospects in the Eastern US to develop relationships, explore opportunities, and solicit inquiries or orders
  • Develop knowledge of customers’ processes, organizations, and businesses to gain a competitive selling advantage
  • Maintain relationships with manufacturers’ representatives and facilitate transactions
  • Contribute to customer RFQ reviews and bid/no-bid decisions
  • Track quotation activity, profitability, pricing trends, and quotation success ratios
  • Maintain and support sales quotation tracking systems
  • Prepare and present technical sales presentations to customer decision makers
  • Pursue and review aftermarket parts and services inquiries for Copes Vulcan valves, desuperheaters, steam conditioning products, and field services

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Bachelor's degree and five to seven years of related experience and/or training, or an equivalent combination of education and experience within the power/light and heavy industrial markets
  • 3 - 5 years in sales and/or sales management experience strongly preferred
  • Experience with severe service and general service control valve applications
  • Experience with desuperheating and steam conditioning applications for power and co-gen
  • Experience with steam conditioning and turbine bypass applications in power and co-gen
  • Experience reviewing customer-supplied specifications, P&IDs, and data sheets and applying them to equipment offerings
  • Experience using sizing programs
  • Experience conducting project review meetings and traveling to suppliers, customers, plants, and other divisions
  • Experience giving presentations and status reports
  • Experience handling multiple priorities under pressing deadlines
  • Proficiency in MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Adobe Acrobat
  • Proficiency in math and engineering, with exposure to quality tools and engineering principles
  • English required; proficiency with other languages helpful
  • Ability to apply basic mathematics, including calculating discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume
  • Ability to solve practical problems with limited standardization
  • Ability to interpret written, oral, diagrammatic, or schedule-based instructions
