About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Deliver gas and power demand forecasts for UK residential customers to hedging and 24/7 trading teams
  • Develop and maintain models and algorithms to forecast gas and power demand for millions of British Gas customers
  • Use ML and AI techniques where appropriate
  • Produce and use analytical tools to monitor and visualise forecasting model quality
  • Analyse customer behaviour, policy impacts, and societal trends to predict energy demand trends
  • Reduce energy imbalance costs through commercial and cost-focused forecasting models and processes
  • Support the British Gas Commercial team with products and propositions through customer behaviour and demand analysis
  • Improve operational process efficiency through automation
  • Build relationships with colleagues across hedging and trading, British Gas Business, Hive, MI, smart metering, data science, finance, billing, industry settlement, and debt teams
  • Perform in-depth analysis and establish enduring automated processes for visualisation and business intelligence
  • Participate in induction and training of new members, and support graduates and interns
  • Put the customer at the heart of decision-making and support digital transformation

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Highly numerate with good analytical skills
  • Experience or knowledge of statistical modelling
  • Comfortable using varied analytical techniques on large data sets
  • Experience with Excel is essential
  • Python and SQL are highly advantageous
  • Keen passion and interest for energy
  • Commitment to doing what is right for the customer while meeting commercial and net-zero targets
