About the role

Key responsibilities & impact

Own payroll platform modernization and sequence migration from legacy operational tools to replacements without putting payroll at risk
Price the cost and risk of keeping legacy systems running
Own the product direction for the payroll data-model redesign with payroll engineering leadership
Validate payroll data models against canonical platform entity models using real client examples
Own permissions, audit discipline, least-privilege controls, deny-by-default rollouts, and feature-flag discipline
Coordinate with security and maintain audit records of system actions
Own payroll compliance, data retention, regulatory changes, and governance, risk, and compliance audit interfaces
Test and document payroll system capabilities, limitations, and latency curves
Run quarterly payroll roadmap reviews, weekly written leadership status updates, and operational-readiness coordination
Deliver a dated legacy-system retirement plan and retire at least one system without a payroll incident
Establish the payroll data-model direction as a written engineering-agreed decision
Make payroll permissions and audit setup a reference example for internal tools
Complete canonical-model validation for each payroll domain

Requirements

What you’ll need

5+ years of product management experience
HCM, payroll, or payroll-adjacent platform experience strongly preferred
Experience coordinating with downstream consumers at scale, including dozens of teams reading one system's contracts
Experience with parallel runs, instant rollback, user acceptance testing, and release trains
Technical understanding of database schemas, APIs, and migration mechanics
Comfort working in regulated, sensitive-data domains
Evidence-based decision-making and documenting decisions
Ability to flag risks before deadlines
