About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Provide nursing interventions and teaching skills under RN supervision to maximize patient comfort and enhance quality of life
- Provide nursing tasks to patients and families, including continuous care, dressing changes, and catheter changes, according to the Interdisciplinary Group plan of care
- Apply Company policies and procedures for medication administration, symptom management, and patient/family relationships
- Observe and monitor patients for alterations in body systems, pain, and symptoms; report findings to the RN
- Observe and report adverse reactions and responses to treatments to the RN
- Report findings to physicians, APRNs, and physician assistants in collaboration with the RN
- Perform venipuncture for blood specimens
- Observe and inspect Central Venous Line sites; perform venous access device dressing and cap changes, flushing, IV medication and fluid administration, IV pushes per procedure, and venipuncture
- Do not make changes to infusion pumps, including rate changes and IV bag changes
- Document according to policy and procedure in the medical record
- Report to company-designated locations during emergencies to ensure continuity of services, potentially ahead of scheduled time and staying overnight
- Perform other duties as assigned
- Cross-train to Hospice House positions of equal licensure/certification and scope when required by census at some locations
- Represent the Company professionally and comply with applicable regulations, policies, safety practices, confidentiality requirements, and performance-improvement activities
- Use resources responsibly, promote the Company through community and professional organizations, improve professional knowledge and electronic media skills, support research and educational activities, and share expertise with coworkers
Requirements
What you’ll need- A high school diploma or G.E.D. or an equivalent combination of education and experience
- Current LPN licensure in the state of employment
- IV certification required at time of hire beginning November 10, 2024; employees in this job prior to November 10, 2024 must obtain certification by June 10, 2025
- Active BLS for healthcare professionals from the American Heart Association or Red Cross
- Valid driver’s license and automobile insurance per Company policy
- Reliable transportation to meet visit schedule
- Certificate of completion of 30 hour Infusion Therapy Course and in-house 8-hour Infusion Class preferred if working in an inpatient unit
- Ability to communicate (written and verbal) in English
- Flexible schedule to meet the needs of patients
- Ability to use equipment with visual and auditory mechanisms
- Ability to manage the emotional stress of working with and caring for terminally ill patients and their families
- Ability to perform essential functions and physical requirements, including lifting patients and/or equipment, bending, pushing/pulling, and kneeling, with or without reasonable accommodation
- Ability to work within scope of practice per state regulations
- Satisfactorily complete competency requirements for this position
- Consent to drug and/or alcohol testing after a conditional offer of employment
- Ongoing compliance with the Drug-Free Workplace Policy
- Florida Care Provider Background Screening Clearinghouse eligibility verification and ongoing eligibility for Florida affiliates
