About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Support the South Philadelphia office on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday and the Mayfair location on Thursday and Friday, 7:30am–4:30pm
  • Measure and record patient vital signs, interviews and medical histories
  • Catalog and communicate patient needs to physicians, clinicians, specialists and other clinical personnel
  • Prepare patients for examinations, perform routine screening tests and assist physicians with exams
  • Explain treatment procedures and physician instructions to patients
  • Observe patients and report changes in their conditions
  • Perform non-critical medical and therapeutic procedures under physician supervision
  • Collect phlebotomy and other lab specimens and perform basic waived lab tests
  • Prepare and administer medications, change dressings, apply bandages, remove sutures and perform first aid under physician supervision
  • Maintain supplies and equipment, sterilize instruments and follow OSHA safety standards
  • Document accurately, legally and ethically
  • Process patient phone messages, return calls and route them appropriately
  • Call patients to obtain and relay information for physicians
  • Call in prescriptions upon physician approval and authorization; use the ChenMed Rx system when authorized
  • Provide health coaching and conduct weekly follow-up calls with assigned patients
  • Perform other duties assigned by management

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • High school diploma or equivalent education (GED) required
  • Graduation from a nationally accredited Medical Assistant program OR comparable healthcare vocational training required
  • A minimum of 1 year of work experience as a Medical Assistant, Patient Care Technician or similar in a hospital, medical clinic or comparable environment OR documented clinical rotation training can be substituted for work experience
  • BLS for Healthcare Providers required
  • Knowledge of medical products, terminology, services, standards, policies and procedures
  • Basic phone and computer operation
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, PowerPoint, Outlook and Excel
  • Ability and willingness to travel locally and/or regionally up to 10% of the time to assist in covering other centers
  • Spoken and written fluency in English
  • Experience working with geriatric patients is a plus
  • EMR system experience preferred
