About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Execute and assist with security certifications and compliance program activities for HHS Indian Health Service.
- Conduct annual security controls effectiveness testing.
- Document findings and advise and monitor remediation efforts.
- Research, evaluate, recommend, and develop security assessment reports, methodologies, briefings, and presentations.
- Conduct information security audits and risk assessments on customer systems and networks.
- Review and update security and contingency plans.
- Assist system owners in developing compliant security authorization packages.
- Evaluate security control implementation and prepare authorization packages using approved templates.
- Assist with federal security mandates, directives, reporting, and compliance processes.
- Review and update risk assessments after significant system or network changes.
- Ensure customer information and systems are protected from unauthorized access, use, disclosure, disruption, modification, or destruction.
- Brief staff on conformance, corrective recommendations, and POA&M remediation.
- Analyze IT systems throughout the systems development lifecycle from a security perspective.
- Review standard security configurations for compliance with federal directives and industry best practices.
Requirements
What you’ll need- Must be able to obtain and maintain the required customer clearance for access to systems, facilities, equipment and property.
- CAP, CISSP, CISM, CISA, SANS GIAC, Security+, Network+, Linux+, MCSE, CCNA or SSCP certifications preferred.
- In depth knowledge of NIST SP 800 series and FedRAMP guidance and standards.
- Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities.
- Ability to learn and apply incident response and continuous monitoring techniques.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Excellent critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
- Working knowledge of OMB, FISMA, FIPS, HIPPA and other federal information security regulations.
- Knowledge of security-related processes for Federal risk and compliance regulations.
- Ability to read and interpret information systems security documents.
- Advanced proficiency in Windows and Linux environments.
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Minimum of five years' relevant experience, unless satisfied through an equivalent combination of education and experience.
