About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Evaluate pediatric patients referred to the Audiology Program

  • Prescribe, select, dispense and adjust hearing aids and accessories
  • Administer newborn hearing screening, impedance testing, otoacoustic emissions, auditory brainstem response testing, automated steady state response testing, behavioral assessments and auditory processing evaluations
  • Counsel and instruct patients and families regarding auditory disabilities, treatment needs and long-term effects
  • Monitor children referred to Audiology and connect families with hearing-loss organizations
  • Perform cerumen management
  • Maintain audiological evaluation reports, hearing-aid progress summaries and professional correspondence
  • Develop protocols, databases and student/new-employee handbooks
  • Collaborate with physicians, speech-language pathologists and clinical professionals
  • Attend patient review conferences, clinics, education classes and meetings
  • Mentor audiology and speech pathology students and supervise graduate students during practicum
  • Lead and participate in pediatric audiology or otolaryngology research
  • Provide in-service training and community lectures
  • Attend continuing-education conferences
  • Monitor testing-equipment accuracy and calibrate equipment regularly
  • Maintain productivity supporting department goals

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • 1+ years experience in a pediatric medical setting
  • Clinical Doctorate of Audiology (AuD) degree
  • Knowledge of anatomy, physiology, sociology, acoustics and phonetics
  • Knowledge of auditory rehabilitation, cochlear implants, cerumen management, auditory processing, hearing aid technology and clinical pediatric audiology
  • Ability to administer and evaluate standardized audiological tests and evaluate audiometric results
  • Ability to develop treatment plans and monitor patient progress
  • Effective communication with patients, families, physicians, speech-language pathologists and related clinical professionals
  • BLS-Basic Life Support Healthcare Provider certification required
  • Audiologist License (156) - State of Wisconsin required
