About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Adhere to Children’s Wisconsin procedures and standards
- Maintain confidentiality and HIPAA compliance
- Provide exceptional care to patients and families
- Perform pre-visit planning to ensure visit efficiencies and identify care gaps
- Maintain a clean, organized environment and prepare exam rooms
- Greet patients and families, direct them to exam rooms, and maintain clinic flow
- Collect and document vitals, measurements, health screenings, allergies, and home medications
- Report observations or concerns to the nurse or provider
- Assist providers with examinations, medications, immunizations, procedures, capillary draws, and peripheral blood draws
- Communicate with providers, leaders, and staff to maintain clinic operations
- Alert the provider or RN when patients need immediate assistance
- Communicate supply and equipment needs to the clinic leader
- Complete clinic paperwork, prior authorizations, and pre-certifications
- Assist with customer service representative duties as needed
- Provide care appropriate to the patient population and applicable policies and procedures
- Support staffing needs at the Mequon location when required
Requirements
What you’ll need- High School graduate or Certificate of General Educational Development (GED) or High School Equivalency Diploma (HSED) required
- Graduate of medical assistant program preferred
- In lieu of this education, 6 months of experience in a patient care role would be considered
- Experience in a primary care, urgent care, or specialty care pediatric setting preferred
- Experience in administering immunizations and other injections preferred
- Experience with pediatric patients preferred
- Ability to work with a diverse patient population to promote a culturally competent environment
- Flexibility of time and duties in a fast paced environment
- Ability to work independently as well as within a team
- Electronic Health Record proficiency preferred
- Ability to assist and support other ambulatory care locations as requested by leaders
- Night and/or weekend hours may be required during high volume or viral surge periods
- Must be able to attend orientation during the first 2 weeks
- Work 4 shifts per month
- CMA-Certified Medical Assistant certification preferred
- BLS-Basic Life Support Healthcare Provider certification required from the American Heart Association, American Red Cross, or National Safety Council
