About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Supervise the Professional Coding Team
  • Ensure accurate and timely coding of records for compliant charging and accurate reimbursement
  • Lead coding activities using ICD-10, HCPCs, and CPT codes
  • Monitor departmental quality, efficiency, and production metrics
  • Collaborate with Revenue Cycle Leaders and teams, especially Patient Accounts and Professional Billing, to resolve denials and patient concerns
  • Support and update team software and resources, including Epic work queues, Claims Manager, and coding knowledge sources
  • Educate employees on documentation and clinical coding guidelines and written standards
  • Maintain current knowledge of coding rules and guidelines and provide guidance on CMS and payer requirements
  • Coordinate and perform team-member training
  • Participate in interviewing, employee selection, promotions, staff development, performance evaluations, employee-concern resolution, and engagement
  • Perform people-management responsibilities including engagement, recruitment, performance management, and development
  • Maintain a safe and positive work environment

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • High School graduate or Certificate of General Educational Development (GED) or High School Equivalency Diploma (HSED) required
  • 2+ years coding leadership experience demonstrating progressive responsibilities required
  • Recent experience applying ICD-10-CM, CPT and HCPCs codes required
  • Coding certifications specific to outpatient professional coding required
  • Thorough knowledge of medical coding and reimbursement topics
  • Experience with electronic medical records required
  • Excellent customer service and professionalism
  • Leadership, organizational, and conflict resolution skills
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment
  • Excellent attention to detail
  • Commitment to continuous quality improvement
  • Adherence to Children's Organizational Code of Ethics and applicable policies, regulations, and laws
