Key responsibilities & impact
  • Perform psychosocial assessments of patients and families to identify strengths, concerns, and needs
  • Facilitate family involvement and support patients and families adjusting to injury, diagnosis, chronic illness, or disability
  • Advocate for patient and family needs within the healthcare system and/or community
  • Evaluate and adapt child life interventions
  • Report suspicions of abuse and neglect as mandated for investigation
  • Conduct post-procedural assessments and interventions
  • Promote and support pain management
  • Document services and interventions
  • Participate in patient care conferences and rounds
  • Follow up on referrals
  • Support process improvement and evidence-based care/professional inquiry
  • Orient and supervise volunteers
  • Contribute to education and training of students and professionals
  • Submit supply requests and maintain organized, safe work areas
  • Manage time, priorities, workload, and resources
  • Complete special assignments and projects
  • Complete required daily/weekly information exchange and documentation
  • Engage in multidisciplinary teamwork, problem solving, and pursuit of best practices
  • Provide education, preparation, procedural support, and play to meet the psychosocial needs of infants, children, adolescents, and young adults

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Bachelor's degree in a related field
  • 0+ years of work experience in a related job discipline
  • Completion of child life internship under the supervision of a certified CLS
  • CCLS within one year of hire
