About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Evaluate medication orders based on patient weight, allergy history, and compatibilities
  • Record orders in patient profiles and complete medication orders accurately for delivery
  • Clarify and resolve problem orders; contact physicians or nurses as needed
  • Detect problematic medication orders, generate alternatives, and effect changes in patient care
  • Train pharmacists and technicians in unit dose and intravenous areas
  • Prepare TPN, central lines, antibiotics, chemotherapy, and respiratory therapy syringes according to departmental guidelines
  • Check IV preparations for errors and ensure delivery according to policy
  • Process chemotherapy orders and ensure dosages and calculations are checked by two pharmacists
  • Use accepted precautions when preparing chemotherapy, including gowns, gloves, chemotherapy mats, and appropriate hoods
  • Provide medication-related information and recommendations to physicians, staff, patients, and families
  • Review patient data and recommend appropriate serum concentration draw times
  • Handle questions and problems professionally by telephone and at the pharmacy window
  • Anticipate and analyze conflict situations and take preventative or corrective action
  • Identify concerns, assist with problem solving and decision making, and serve as an informational resource
  • Function in any central pharmacy area where a pharmacist is needed
  • Take administrative initiative to handle problems when the supervisor is unavailable

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy OR PharmD Degree
  • Pharmacist License in the state of Ohio or license within 3 months of hire
  • Prior hospital Pharmacist experience preferred
