About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Provide information to store management by recapping promotional activity and reporting business opportunities, results, trends and competitive information
- Manage controllable costs, including merchandise variation, salaries, overtime, cash, repair and maintenance costs
- Collaborate with Marketing to implement promotions and new product introductions
- Provide feedback to category managers regarding stock issues
- Partner with vendors to ensure product availability and professional performance
- Execute monthly promotions in a timely manner
- Ensure profitable store operations by managing cash, merchandise variation, salaries and other controllable P&L expenses
- Enforce compliance with company policies, procedures, government regulations and restricted sales policies
- Maintain a safe and secure working environment through safety practices, communication and training
- Forecast requirements, prepare annual budgets, schedule expenditures, analyze variances and initiate corrective actions
- Provide leadership and direction to Store Managers, including recruiting, selection and orientation support
- Assist with employee development and training programs
- Establish job expectations and provide coaching for issue resolution
- Administer counseling notices and initiate corrective actions
- Apply non-discriminatory management practices in hiring, training, counseling, motivating and separating employees
- Maintain professional and technical knowledge through workshops, publications, networks and professional societies
- Accomplish financial and Key Result Area targets according to company plan guidelines
- Prepare operational and risk reports for analysis
- Recruit, select and orient employees
- Train, coach, counsel, discipline, plan, monitor and appraise employee performance
Requirements
What you’ll need- Bachelor’s degree in business or related field preferred; other combinations of job-related experience and education that meet the requirements may be substituted
- 3–5 years of retail business experience or more preferred, including a minimum of 2 years of management responsibility
- Experience with MS Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint and Word preferred
- Demonstrated leadership ability
- Good communication skills
- Self-directed, self-motivated and customer service oriented
- Ability to communicate orally and in writing in English
- Ability to supervise and train Store Managers in use of store equipment, tools and materials
- Ability to supervise and manage the functions listed in the Store Manager job description
- Current valid driver’s license required to operate a company vehicle
- Ability to sit for long periods of time
- Ability to operate a computer keyboard and mouse for data entry
- Ability to view a computer monitor
- Ability to hear and speak via telephone
- Ability to reach forward and/or overhead
- Ability to occasionally lift up to 20 pounds
- Ability to work with minimum direction and periodic supervision
