About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Build purpose-built large language models for Cisco’s networking, security, data center, and observability infrastructure
- Drive pre-training initiatives for foundational models across Cisco’s product portfolio
- Conduct generative AI research to improve networking automation and human-computer interaction
- Research domain-specific foundational representations relevant to networking
- Collaborate with cross-functional engineers and strategists to integrate research into business solutions
- Publish research in top-tier AI venues
- Give technical talks and organize workshops
- Contribute to the broader scientific community and establish Cisco as a global AI research thought leader
Requirements
What you’ll need- Bachelor's in computer science + 5 years of related experience, or Masters + 3 years of related experience, or PhD + 0 years of related experience
- Experience with LLM pre-training and post-training within an industry or academic research lab
- Minimum of 3 publications within top AI venues such as ACL, EMNLP, ICLR, ICML, NAACL, or NeurIPS
- Experience working with machine learning models and familiarity with TensorFlow, PyTorch, Hugging Face, or equivalent platforms
- Prior experience driving research projects within an industry or university research lab, including full-time or internship experience
- Interest in combining representation learning and problem-specific properties
- Experience building and fine-tuning foundation models, including LLMs, multimodal models, or domain-specific models
- Cutting-edge knowledge of generative AI, large language models, and multimodal models
- Strong communication, interpersonal, and relationship-building skills conducive to collaboration
