About the role

Key responsibilities & impact

Ensure production services are scalable, resilient, high-performing, and secure
Support uptime through on-call rotation, monitoring, and alerting to meet SLOs and SLAs
Conduct Disaster Recovery drills and manage incidents, including root-cause investigation, remediation, and continuous improvement
Define reliability and security requirements for systems and components
Automate repetitive tasks and mitigate failure points
Develop tools and techniques for early detection of product, process, and reliability issues
Apply best practices and business knowledge to improve products or services
Establish relationships with cross-functional partners to gather input and complete work
Design and deploy moderately complex solutions optimizing reliability, availability, latency, and performance
Build automated platforms using design, deployment, and coding expertise
Design and test high-availability and disaster-recovery measures across regions and customers
Forecast resource capacity and build capacity reports
Design and implement infrastructure monitoring and performance-transparency tools
Collaborate with Developers and Operations to identify issues
Serve as an on-call SRE and lead postmortems and root-cause analyses
Build and verify security controls in architectural designs
Collaborate with security teams on security controls and potentially contribute to security incident response
Guide and support less experienced colleagues

Requirements

What you’ll need

Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related field
7+ years of technical expertise with cloud databases
Experience with Vector databases such as Pinecone, Weaviate, or Milvus and/or at least two of PostgreSQL, MySQL, or MongoDB
Experience with AI frameworks such as OpenAI API and LangChain
Experience designing, administering, and maintaining Vector DB or Cloud DB architecture, including provisioning, upgrades, operations, backups, security, and performance
Experience with CI/CD frameworks and tools such as Git/GitHub and Jenkins
Experience automating database tasks using Python
Experience with Database Lifecycle Management
Preferred: experience with public cloud platforms such as AWS, GCP, or Azure, or container technologies such as Kubernetes and OpenShift
Preferred: backend experience with Python or other programming skills
Preferred: demonstrated experience building scalable databases on hybrid cloud infrastructure
