About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Serve as subject matter expert and key legal advisor on Employment & HR matters
  • Ensure compliance with employment laws and regulations and counsel managers on compliance
  • Advise on employment contracts, discrimination claims, and employment-related arbitration
  • Advise on human resources matters including discrimination, employment contracts, immigration law, workplace safety, data retention, and privacy
  • Audit and improve employment policies, practices, and compliance initiatives; identify areas of risk, including appropriate use of AI
  • Advise senior management, business stakeholders, functional partners, the Legal Management Council, Practice Group Heads, and regional/country leadership
  • Participate in senior forums covering strategy, risk management, governance, reputation, and complex or high-risk issues
  • Lead workstreams analyzing implications of emerging and existing laws
  • Participate in risk review and control forums
  • Negotiate, coordinate, and monitor complex issues with senior leaders
  • Identify, evaluate, and help manage legal, regulatory, and reputational risk
  • Assess risk in business decisions and drive compliance with applicable laws, rules, regulations, and policies
  • Innovate process improvements and improved ways of working, including appropriate use of AI
  • Exercise operational responsibility for planning, budgeting, and execution of results

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • 15+ years of specific relevant Employment & HR experience
  • Some experience working in an in-house legal role in financial services
  • Excellent leadership, interpersonal, organizational and relationship management skills
  • Experience working with regulators/regulatory bodies preferred
  • Proven ability to apply sound judgment while managing multiple assignments simultaneously in a demanding, fast-paced environment
  • Knowledge and expertise in Employment & HR laws, rules, regulations, enforcement actions, and FINRA regulations
  • Experience with complex deals and ability to analyze issues and develop recommendations
  • Effective communication and negotiation skills
  • Ability to build and maintain trusted relationships
  • Bar license in good standing to practice law
  • Juris Doctorate or equivalent law degree
