About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Develop, implement, and execute water/wastewater and storm water facility asset management projects
- Lead engineering and financial studies, liaise with consultants, oversee budgets, and facilitate multidisciplinary teams
- Execute and maintain the Water/Wastewater/Storm Water facility asset management program
- Manage facility asset management audits and assessments, including scope, resources, schedule, budget, and stakeholder engagement
- Direct and oversee consultant assignments, including terms of reference, data collection, and review of consultant submissions
- Formulate long-range inspection and maintenance plans and schedules for facility assets
- Create prioritized capital improvement business cases for the annual capital budgeting process
- Participate in multidisciplinary teams addressing planning and asset management issues
- Participate in committees, long-term plans, infrastructure management budgets, and capital delivery activities
- Liaise with MECP and other provincial and federal agencies and stakeholder groups
- Respond to technical inquiries from the public, staff, municipal and government agencies
- Prepare reports, correspondence, project presentations, and presentations to staff and external agencies
- Direct and supervise technicians, technologists, and support staff on a project-specific basis
- Follow applicable health and safety legislation and City policies and perform related duties as assigned
Requirements
What you’ll need- Degree in Civil Engineering and/or Environmental Science, or an equivalent combination of relevant education and relevant work experience
- Demonstrated knowledge of asset management theories, practices, and trends related to water and wastewater infrastructure
- Experience in project management of infrastructure investigations, preferably in a municipal environment
- Infrastructure management knowledge and experience related to water/wastewater/storm water assets
- Knowledge of the Clean Water Act, Safe Drinking Water Act, Ontario Water Resources Act, and associated regulations
- Extensive knowledge of water and wastewater infrastructure systems, including facility condition assessment, rehabilitation, and construction
- Knowledge and experience developing and implementing facility asset management programs
- Effective facilitation, communication, presentation, interpersonal, and organizational skills
- Ability to manage and/or work with multidisciplinary staff in a results-oriented, predominantly unionized environment
- Experience designing and delivering customer-focused programs and services
- Ability to interact effectively with elected officials, government representatives, management, peers, staff, and the public
- Strong working knowledge of computer database software and Microsoft Office, including Access, Word, and Excel
- Satisfactory Criminal Record and Judicial Matters Check required before beginning work, at the successful applicant's expense
- Membership with the Professional Engineers of Ontario or Ontario Association of Certified Engineering Technicians and Technologists preferred
- Experience with asset management software preferred
- Knowledge and experience with GeoMedia/GIS, InforEAM, and SCADA software would be an asset
