About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Conduct mandated inspections of licensed and unlicensed child care and preschool facilities
- Provide education on licensing requirements
- Conduct complaint investigations on licensed facilities and unlicensed child care
- Coordinate with Law Enforcement, Children and Family Services, and other agencies
- Recommend and initiate appropriate licensing responses to regulation violations
- Testify at appeal hearings
- Meet annual inspection goals and manage schedules independently
- Evaluate children's programs and determine conformity with standards
- Travel daily across the assigned Western Nebraska and Panhandle coverage area as needed
Requirements
What you’ll need- Graduation from an accredited four year college or university with specialization in elementary or early childhood education, human development, sociology, psychology, child development, social work, nursing or related field; experience may be substituted for education on a year for year basis
- Experience as an inspector/complaint investigator in human services licensing, child welfare investigator, and/or children’s services provider at the level of licensee, director or assistant director of a child care center
- Valid driver’s license or the ability to provide independent authorized transportation
- Ability to travel daily, if necessary
- Knowledge of developmentally appropriate practice, quality children's programs, early childhood program issues, and Microsoft Office Software
- Ability to communicate verbally and in writing professionally, interpret and apply regulations, policies, and procedures
- Ability to prioritize and work independently while maintaining accuracy
- Ability to communicate and coordinate with team members, licensees, and other partners
- Ability to analyze difficult situations and develop strategies
- Ability to evaluate children's programs and compare data with established criteria
